![]() Terri Moon, demonstrating how to listen and speak with Giraffe ears while holding the Jackal down in her right hand ... don't know what all that means? Come to our Singles group on 5/9 and learn more about NVC.. Non Violent Communication (NVC) is . . . ? Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is sometimes referred to as compassionate communication. Its purpose is to strengthen our ability to inspire compassion from others and to respond compassionately to others and to ourselves. NVC guides us to reframe how we express ourselves and hear others by focusing our consciousness on what we are observing, feeling, needing, and requesting. Terri will train us to make careful observations free of evaluation, and to specify behaviors and conditions that are affecting us. We learn to hear our own deeper needs and those of others, and to identify and clearly articulate what we are wanting in a given moment. When we focus on clarifying what is being observed, felt, and needed, rather than on diagnosing and judging, we discover the depth of our own compassion. Through its emphasis on deep listening—to ourselves as well as others—NVC fosters respect, attentiveness and empathy, and engenders a mutual desire to give from the heart. The form is simple, yet powerfully transformative. Terri Moon earned her Masters Degree in Psychology from Memphis State University in 1982. After five years, health challenges forced her to leave the corporate world, where she was a market research analyst. She has been a body worker since 1987, healing herself and others while raising consciousness one-on-one. She has been teaching alternative forms of healing, as well as offering classes in such methods, since 1997. She has been studying Non-Violent communication, as developed by Marshall B. Rosenberg for the last nine years. Having completed a year-long leadership training program with Bay NVC in 2005, she has been teaching NVC for the past two years. She is currently completing her requirements for certification as a trainer with the Center for Non-Violent Communication. She has completed a year-long leadership and mastery program with PAX, whose mission is to transform relationships between men and women from adversarial to partnership. She works with couples to support them in blissful partnership through mediation and education. |
